The Center for Memory and Recording Research was founded in 1983 by a consortium of U.S. companies in the magnetic recording industry. The Center’s mission is to advance the state-of-the-art in magnetic, optical, and solid-state storage technologies, and to produce highly trained graduate students and postdoctoral professionals. CMRR also serves as a catalyst for joint investigations amongst its industrial sponsors, government agencies, and the university.
