CacheDedup: In-line Deduplication for Flash Caching
Abstract: Flash caching is a promising solution to the scalability problems. But it still faces serious obstacles due to the limited capacity and endurance of flash devices. This paper presents CacheDedup, a solution that addresses these limitations using in-line deduplication. First, it proposes a novel architecture that integrates the caching of data and deduplication metadata. Second, it proposes duplication-aware cache replacement algorithms to optimize both cache performance and endurance.
Bio: Ming Zhao is an associate professor of the ASU School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering, where he directs the research laboratory for Virtualized Infrastructures, Systems, and Applications (VISA). His research is in the areas of experimental computer systems, including distributed/cloud, big-data, and high-performance computing systems.
