A Flexible and Low-Complexity Local Erasure Recovery Scheme
Abstract: A flexible yet low-complexity local erasure coding scheme for failure recovery is presented in this work. Although the proposed scheme is not maximum distance separable, it does not have much constraint on the locality or the parameters of the code, allows easy tradeoff on the locality and redundancy, and can achieve unequal protection over drives with different reliabilities. More importantly, it can be implemented with low hardware complexity.
Bio: Xinmiao Zhang received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota in 2005. She has been an Assistant Professor 2005-2010, and a tenured Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University 2010-2013. Currently, she is a Senior Technologist at Western Digital. Her research focuses on digital storage and communications, VLSI architecture design, security, and signal processing. She is a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
